Canada is a country with two official languages – English and French! Wherever you go you will be greeted in English and in French and you can choose which language to speak. But when I went to Canada, I was surprised at how many languages I would hear on one day. There was German, Swiss German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Swedish, Czech, Greek, and many more. It is pretty much the same here in Southern California. There are people from all over the world who live here and there are people from all over the world who travel here. Usually they all speak English, so there is no need to speak their language but it is so much fun. We foreigners keep thinking we can talk about everything and everyone in our native language and no one can understand us. And mostly we are right but once in a while we are surprised by people who understand and speak our language. In those situations we are really impressed and we love chit-chatting in our native language.
So when I walk through a city like Vancouver I would really like to understand and speak all those languages I hear all the time. To me some of them sound exotic, some sound harsh, others have a melody, and most languages just sound beautiful.
If you love languages as I do and if you would like to surprise foreigners by addressing them in their language, you should come to the Orange County Lingual Institute. We offer 20 different languages, for example, German, Italian, Spanish, French, Korean, Japanese, Mandarin, Greek, and many more. Learning one of them will be a fun, rewarding and cultural experience for you which you will enjoy very much.
So going to Canada and meeting so many people from so many different countries convinced me to brush up the languages I already speak and to learn at least one more in the future.
