Private German lessons pair you with one native-speaking instructor for 80 minutes a week, working from a plan built around your level, your goals, and the parts of the language you find hardest. You can take them at our Costa Mesa institute on Anton Boulevard, online from wherever you are, or at your own home or office if that is easier.
Eight lessons cost $800, which is $100 for each 80-minute session, plus a one-time $50 registration fee for new students. Lessons are scheduled with you rather than against a fixed timetable, so you can start without waiting for a term to open. Tell us what you are working toward and we will match you with an instructor.

The Institute has taught in Southern California for over twenty years and works with more than 3,000 students a year. Here is what students say about learning with us.

How a Private German Lesson Works
Lessons are sold in packages of eight 80-minute sessions. If you are already in one of our group classes you can buy lessons one at a time instead, which is what most people do when they want to attack a single problem rather than restructure their study.
Your instructor sets the curriculum after talking with you about where you are and what you need. An engineer moving to Stuttgart spends their time differently than someone preparing a Goethe certificate, and neither has to sit through material they already know.
When One-on-One Makes More Sense Than a Class
Students choose private German lessons when a standard sequence does not fit what they need, whether that is the pace, the material, or a goal with a date attached. All three are easier to serve with one instructor and one student.
Grammar is the other reason. German asks you to track case, gender and word order at the same time, and a learner who guesses one of the three can still follow a class while quietly building a habit that is hard to undo later. One-on-one is where that gets caught early.
Students with a date in mind also do better privately. A certificate exam or a start date in Germany does not move to suit an eight-week term, and a private schedule can be arranged around the deadline instead.
Semi-Private German Lessons
Semi-private lessons are the option when you want to share the sessions with someone working at a similar level, which suits couples preparing for the same trip, coworkers who need the same workplace vocabulary, or a parent and child learning together. The curriculum still gets built around the people in the room rather than a fixed syllabus, and the cost per student comes down because the instructor’s time is shared. Call (714) 662-5400 to arrange one and to confirm German instructor availability.
What Private German Lessons Cost
Eight private lessons cost $800, and new students pay a one-time $50 registration fee. That package is the usual starting point rather than a fixed product, so tell us if a different number of sessions or a different lesson length fits your goals better, and semi-private lessons bring the cost per student down again.
A group German class runs $295 for an eight-week term and meets for 80 minutes a week alongside up to fourteen other students, so the private rate reflects an instructor’s full attention and a curriculum written for one person. Our pricing for group, private, and corporate programs lists every option side by side.
Who Your German Instructor Will Be
We keep a roster of more than seventy instructors. The ones who teach German are native speakers, and their English is good enough to explain a grammar point in whichever language makes it land, which matters more than fluency alone. Hiring is on credentials or advanced degrees plus time actually spent teaching.
The texts are the same university books the group classes work from, reordered to fit one person instead of fifteen. We have been teaching in Southern California for over twenty years and see more than 3,000 students a year.
German Tutoring for Children and Teenagers
Private lessons are open to students of any age, which makes them the usual route for a child younger than our group class minimum or a teenager studying German at school. We do not run a children’s German group class, so one-on-one is how younger students learn here.
Tell us which textbook the school uses and where the class has reached. The instructor works from that material so the lessons support the course instead of competing with it.
Where Lessons Happen
Most students meet their instructor at our institute at 600 Anton Boulevard, Suite B in Costa Mesa, where there is parking on site. Lessons also run online, which suits anyone whose commute or schedule makes a weekly drive difficult, and we can send an instructor to your home or office instead. Tell us which format you want when you get in touch.
Students come to us from across the county, including Irvine, Newport Beach, Santa Ana, Huntington Beach, Tustin, Anaheim, Fountain Valley, and Orange. The online option puts the same instructors within reach wherever you happen to be.
Start Private German Lessons
Send us the form below and the office will take it from there. Someone reads every inquiry, talks through your level, your goals and the times you can meet, then matches you with an instructor who fits and confirms the schedule with you. Nothing is booked or charged at this stage, so you are free to ask what you like first.
If you would rather talk it through, call (714) 662-5400 Monday through Thursday from 10:30am to 9:00pm and Friday from 10:30am to 2:30pm, or email info@oclanguages.com. Students who already know what they want can go straight to the private lesson registration and payment form, and anyone still weighing the two formats can check the German group class schedule.
Common Questions

At the Orange County Lingual Institute, eight 80-minute private lessons cost $800, which works out to $100 a session, plus a one-time $50 registration fee for new students. Students already enrolled in a group class can buy lessons individually rather than in a package of eight.
Tell us which level you are sitting and when, and the instructor will build the sessions around that target rather than a general course.
Yes, and it is one of the more common reasons students book private lessons. A class moves at a fixed rate, and grammar gaps are easier to fix when the session is not shared.
Yes. Students in a class can book individual lessons rather than a package of eight, which is a common way to work through one sticking point without leaving the class.
