Private Hebrew tutoring gives you one native-speaking instructor for 80 minutes a week and a curriculum shaped around what you can already do and what you cannot yet. Sessions are held at our institute on Anton Boulevard in Costa Mesa, online, or at your home or office.
Eight lessons cost $800, which is $100 for each 80-minute session, plus a one-time $50 registration fee for new students. Lessons are scheduled with you rather than against a fixed timetable, so you can start without waiting for a term to open. Tell us what you are working toward and we will match you with an instructor.

The Institute has taught in Southern California for over twenty years and works with more than 3,000 students a year. Here is what students say about learning with us.

How a Private Hebrew Lesson Works
Lessons are sold in packages of eight 80-minute sessions. If you are already in one of our group classes you can buy lessons one at a time instead, which is what most people do when they want to attack a single problem rather than restructure their study.
Someone preparing for a trip to Tel Aviv wants different hours than a student learning to read prayers or an adult picking the language back up after religious school. Reading Hebrew without vowel marks is its own skill, and it is one of the things a private instructor can drill properly because the session is not shared.
When One-on-One Makes More Sense Than a Class
What a private Hebrew lesson buys is undivided attention. Eighty minutes with one instructor means nothing in the session goes to material you already know, and nothing you are stuck on gets left behind because the room has moved on.
A date is the other common driver. Students preparing for a bar or bat mitzvah, a trip to Israel or a conversion are working toward something fixed, and private sessions can be arranged around that deadline rather than around a term.
Uneven knowledge is the other common reason. Someone who attended religious school as a child may decode the alphabet quickly but have almost no vocabulary, and no single class level fits that profile. Private lessons start wherever the gaps actually are.
Semi-Private Hebrew Lessons
Semi-private lessons are the option when you want to share the sessions with someone working at a similar level, which suits couples preparing for the same trip, coworkers who need the same workplace vocabulary, or a parent and child learning together. The curriculum still gets built around the people in the room rather than a fixed syllabus, and the cost per student comes down because the instructor’s time is shared. Call (714) 662-5400 to arrange one and to confirm Hebrew instructor availability.
What Private Hebrew Lessons Cost
Eight private lessons cost $800, and new students pay a one-time $50 registration fee. That package is the usual starting point rather than a fixed product, so tell us if a different number of sessions or a different lesson length fits your goals better, and semi-private lessons bring the cost per student down again.
A group Hebrew class runs $295 for an eight-week term and meets for 80 minutes a week alongside up to fourteen other students, so the private rate reflects an instructor’s full attention and a curriculum written for one person. Our pricing for group, private, and corporate programs lists every option side by side.
Who Your Hebrew Instructor Will Be
We keep a roster of more than seventy instructors. The ones who teach Hebrew are native speakers, and their English is good enough to explain a grammar point in whichever language makes it land, which matters more than fluency alone. Hiring is on credentials or advanced degrees plus time actually spent teaching.
The texts are the same university books the group classes work from, reordered to fit one person instead of fifteen. We have been teaching in Southern California for over twenty years and see more than 3,000 students a year.
Hebrew Tutoring for Children and Teenagers
Private lessons are open to students of any age, which makes them the usual route for a child or teenager who needs Hebrew alongside school or synagogue study. We do not run a children’s Hebrew group class, so one-on-one is how younger students learn here.
Tell us what the student is working toward and which materials they already use. The instructor builds the sessions around that rather than starting something separate, which matters most when there is a date to be ready by.
Where Lessons Happen
Most students meet their instructor at our institute at 600 Anton Boulevard, Suite B in Costa Mesa, where there is parking on site. Lessons also run online, which suits anyone whose commute or schedule makes a weekly drive difficult, and we can send an instructor to your home or office instead. Tell us which format you want when you get in touch.
Students come to us from across the county, including Irvine, Newport Beach, Santa Ana, Huntington Beach, Tustin, Anaheim, Fountain Valley, and Orange. The online option puts the same instructors within reach wherever you happen to be.
Start Private Hebrew Lessons
Send us the form below and the office will take it from there. Someone reads every inquiry, talks through your level, your goals and the times you can meet, then matches you with an instructor who fits and confirms the schedule with you. Nothing is booked or charged at this stage, so you are free to ask what you like first.
If you would rather talk it through, call (714) 662-5400 Monday through Thursday from 10:30am to 9:00pm and Friday from 10:30am to 2:30pm, or email info@oclanguages.com. Students who already know what they want can go straight to the private lesson registration and payment form, and anyone still weighing the two formats can check the Hebrew group class schedule.
Common Questions

At the Orange County Lingual Institute, eight 80-minute private lessons cost $800, which works out to $100 a session, plus a one-time $50 registration fee for new students. Students already enrolled in a group class can buy lessons individually rather than in a package of eight.
Tell us which you need when you get in touch and we will match you with an instructor accordingly. The two draw on the same alphabet and much of the same grammar, but the vocabulary and the reading material differ enough that it is worth saying up front.
No. Plenty of private students begin with reading, and because the session is not shared the instructor can spend as long on the alphabet as you need before moving on to anything else.
Tell us what the student needs to be able to read and by when, and the instructor will work from the actual material rather than a general course.
